Thunderbirds are go
Three Virgin class 57's wait to enter Crewe. Known and named after Thunderbird characters these loco's are position across the West Coast Main line and are sent to the rescue of failed Virgin trains. Sometimes also used to take diverted electric trains via un-electrified routes. This picture was taken at 05:20 in the morning. Some of the 57's have a coupling built into the front end and these drop down to marry up with Virgin Voyagers or Pendolino's.
